Work without a contract. Physical person. Is it possible to recover?

There was an agreement with a freelancer to work on a project. Correspondence was conducted via telegram. It was paid for 2 months of work and these 2 months he worked normally. For 3 months he began to disappear, the money for this month was not transferred, but he did not insist. Further disappeared.
There is no contract. Contact details are known. (real person, used to work with him)
Money was transferred from the card of an individual to his card of an individual.
Actually, is it realistic in this situation to recover anything for an unfinished project?

Of course not. You deliberately hired without a contract, knowing full well the risks, but you wanted to save money. No contract - no obligation. If you insist, you may run into a counterclaim for extortion.
