Work for an applied mathematician

Hello!
I am a student studying at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics. I would like to become a professional and work not just in the field of IT, but preferably in areas where knowledge of mathematics and the ability to apply it are important. So far, I have singled out the direction of data mining , where knowledge of statistics is important, the theory. I know that it is also needed in game development, but I personally am not drawn to toys .
I myself am now going through machine learning on Coursera, I know quite well Java SE and subjects of the university program.
Actually, I want to know in which direction it is better to dig in terms of finding a job in this specialty and which subjects to pay more attention to. Is it possible to get a job as a Padawan in this topic in the 3-4 course?
Thanks everyone for the replies.

I read the title and thought I'm about to read about PhD 30 years. Here is a 3rd year student. Calm down, write a resume, go to interviews. Feel the market. Learn a year and go where you like it best.
