Wordpress on UpWork - is it really possible to start in 2018?

2 years experience in front end (html, css, js like jquery and vue).
I can make responsive WP themes from scratch.
Is it possible to start getting orders for UpWork with such skills?
The search produces a lot of orders, but for the majority, after 15 minutes, 20 offers.
Plus, I met opinions that upwork now refuses to register new wordpress developers (you can get around this restriction, but as I understand it, the reason is that there are too many such specialists).

IMHO, Upwork WP is one of the dominant technologies. Orders SEA.
Specialists, just not so much. Lots of low-skilled people taking any job at low prices. The quality is appropriate. As soon as you develop a portfolio and a good rating, there will be no problems. Read articles about how to take orders, how to fill out a profile, etc. Focus on WP in your profile.
I don't know WP and don't like it :) , but at the beginning I worked with it. Wrote plugins. Moreover, there were offers from clients to work constantly with such projects, but I'm not interested.
Summary - just for WP specialists on upwork expanse.
Z.Y. Just don't miss any order. Rate the customer. It will save time, money and, most importantly, NERVES.

Better look towards themeforest, front-ends are always welcome there and your templates will definitely not be left without orders. Published 5 templates and here's a good passive income for you (or maybe not passive if you do it all the time). + try to look for orders on lesser known exchanges than Upwork to make it easier to get through (or even on the forums).

there are not many specialists, but people who rush to such orders. There are many salespeople among them who are trying to take the order in bulk. For example, 5-10 sales from one office pretend to be developers, bid for the same project, so that in the end the project will be done by their development team.
A lot of Chinese posing as ... Ukrainians. A lot of Indians and Pakistanis pushing each other with their elbows to quickly copy-paste that they are the best developer, I understood the task, I just did this yesterday, and I’m ready to take it right now ...
