Won't "downgrading" sitelinks in Google reduce page rankings?

Good afternoon.
The customer does not like sitelinks displayed under the search results in Google SERPs. Asks to be removed.
If I lower the ranking of each page through the Google Webmaster panel (Search View -> Site Links), will it affect the weight of these pages? Won't they rank worse in the search? At the moment, these pages bring traffic.

tell the customer that he is an idiot (unless, of course, the owner of Google)
people have no idea how much effort it takes for a search engine to determine the relevance of a page / site to an input query, "site links" is one of such tools
