With what standard class/classes to make calls on Android?

Can I somehow programmatically make calls to android? Without using Intent ? Maybe there is some class for this? And where can I find a good tutorial/documentation on this topic? And you need to be able to track the events of the call - that is, the beginning and end of the call .. And it is desirable to manage it a little more .. Is there anything necessary for this?
