Computer management > Task Scheduler > Microsoft > Windows > Maintenance > RMB > Shut down.
After that, Windows will stop checking the computer and turn off the aero (at the same time, the computer will stop waking up at night, if it did before).

First, run tests and find what slows you down, maybe problems with firewood.
But in general, in this configuration, I am horrified by 64 bit with 4G RAM. I would advise to install x32 system. it's even more efficient than +4G memory.
