Windows 7 Home Basic x64 and DNS suffix
Greetings!
There is one problem. I need to implement a short URL system in the company, I solve it by adding a DNS suffix to the network connection.
There is a DHCP server with Debian 6 OS. DNS suffix issue to hosts is configured. Ubuntu workstations accept the correct settings and everything is ok. Short links like mysite work (full URL like mysite.example.com ). But it didn't work with Windows. And even with manual indication in the network connection settings, it does not work yet.
Found this article , it says to enable 2 options in group policies.
- Allow adding DNS suffixes to queries of non-matching compound names
- Primary DNS Suffix Devolution Level.
However, at first I encountered the fact that it was necessary to launch the Group Policy Console. Home Basic doesn't have it by default. Enjoyed this .
The solution to the problem is also described here and for Windows Server 2008 R2 it worked. But it is necessary for Win7 Home Basic.
I must say that exactly the option "Allow DNS suffixes to be added to queries for non-matching distinguished names" in group policies, in the DNSClient section, is not.
Perhaps someone has come across something similar. Share your experience. If you need any additional information, I will provide.
Thank you.

DNS suffixes do not work on OS versions lower than Professional (Windows 7) . Same for 8.
