Windows 10 is taking too long to update, how can I fix it?

The Windows Update service hangs for a very long time, not accessing either the network or the disk, but loading the processor. At the same time, WindowsUpdate.log for the most part consists of

Loaded state: cCompleteIterations: 0, pt: Express, nNextRequestID: 1.
, which are interrupted by lines

The search mainly reveals the existence of such an error in Windows 7, where it was solved by installing an update, or general recommendations. Restarting the update service does not help - after a while it starts again, if you try to install the update manually - the result is the same.

@vbif

Try stopping the service and clearing the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ folder
If you're willing to take a security risk, there's a discussion in the next thread about how to disable updates altogether.
