Will the site fall in the index?

Hello.
I have an old site that has never been responsive, but it has high positions for the right queries in the PS. I want to make it responsive (flexbox), but I don't know how the search engines themselves will react to this, provided that the content remains the same.

Most likely there will be no negative consequences, but do not forget that the page in PS is affected not only by text factors, but also by behavioral ones. If you make it mobile-friendly so that you change the visual structure of the page and the ps don't like it, then screw it. And so, the mobile version is more likely to have a positive effect on your traffic.

In order to test the impact without catching sudden changes in positions, at first try to keep the html markup as close as possible to the existing one (give or take a couple of wrappers), so that only the css will be affected by the main changes. Alternatively, you can leave the desktops as they are, and add an adaptive for tablets / mobiles.
Additionally:

  • Consider download speed.
  • Test layout in browsers with cat. your visitors come.
  • Measure the before/after ratio of audiences across different platforms and key behavioral metrics.
