Will the firmware update ever end?

The driver firmware update in the MSL4048 FC tape library is on and on. HP LTT said the update failed and the ribbon just disappeared from the system. There is information on the webmord that:
1. Status: Drive FW Upgrade
2. Drives: Upgrade
3. No action is available.
Firmware downloaded from offsite bundle.
Has anyone else experienced such heresy? What problems arise from this? What is the probability that after a reboot in this state the tape will die?
