Will the 6th generation CPU work on a motherboard with an Intel Z390 chipset?

Decided to upgrade my PC.

I have already bought a motherboard with an Intel Z390 chipset and I think I will soon buy a 9th generation processor. My current one is the 6th generation.

The question is, will the old 6th generation processor work on a motherboard with an Intel Z390, or is it better to buy and install a new 9th one right away?

Won't work. It won’t even physically get up - there is a different socket

It is possible, but you need to modify the BIOS and not the fact that it will start. Do not listen to the local xperds. Intel sat on their heads in childhood, so they are talking nonsense about the differences in sockets 1151v1 and 1151v2. Although again, without knowledge, risk and enthusiasm, it is better not to try to carry out the modification.
