Will RAM work?
I have a Compaq cq50 laptop. I took it 5 years ago, respectively, 3 GB of memory is not enough. I want to put 2 GB instead of 1 on one of the bars.
Naturally, finding 2 GB ddr2 667 turned out to be a problem. Therefore, I decided to take the same thing, only with a frequency of 800.
Will the new bar work at all (I know about lowering the frequency)?

The memory will work at lower frequencies, the specification allows it.
If you have an AMD-based Compaq cq50, then the dual-channel memory mode may not work on different brackets.
About the Compaq cq50 laptop, there are conflicting information about the maximum amount of memory. Somewhere they write 4GB, somewhere 8GB. If you are sitting on a 32-bit system, then in my opinion there is no point in bothering, because. +1Gb you won't get, under the right circumstances (400-500Mb), usually less, depending on the address space occupied by the hardware. In reality, I would count on + 200-300Mb.
If it still supports 8GB, then the cost of a 4GB DDR2 SO-DIMM bar is about 100 USD. Two of these bars will cost almost as much as this laptop. Those. the feasibility of such an upgrade, given the moral age of iron, is a big question.
See for yourself.
