Will data be lost when creating a partition on a hard drive?

The external hard drive stopped working, opened it through gparted and I see such a picture

, it turns out that the file system has flown (in what way?)?
If I create a partition with, for example, ntfs, will the data that was on the disk be lost?

They will probably get lost. Better try to go through a recovery utility like R-Studio and get back the old partitions.

Of course, some data may be lost.
Trite, but any write operation overwrites the sectors that it affects, destroying the data stored in those sectors irretrievably.
You now need to ensure that there are no write operations to the disk (formatting, initialization, etc.) and scan the disk with a data recovery program.
Under Windows there is a free R.saver .
After saving the recovered data to another medium, I would advise you to run a disk test in R.tester to see if it is safe to use the hard drive further.
