Will an optical media converter work with a switch over SFP?

Good evening!

During the quarantine, I was engaged in encouraging my outlook and trying to understand what SFP is. I read several articles about him. And then I asked myself: can an optical media converter transmit a signal to a switch via SFP? In my case, not two identical converters are used, but a converter + switch.

The main thing is that the sfp modules would be able to meet the required standards on both sides. I came across a situation when there were 100 and 1000 on different sides. Equipment that could handle 1000 could not work with 100
