Will a MacBook with an external 2k monitor at 144Hz work in expand/duplicate mode?

In my understanding, there are 3 options for working with an external monitor:
1) In duplication mode - the external monitor duplicates the image on the MacBook.
2) In the workspace extension mode - the external monitor becomes an extension of the MacBook screen.
3) In the mode when the image is displayed only on an external monitor.

There was a question:
In what modes will the MacBook work with 2560x1440 + 144 Hz?

I assume:
That only mode 3) in 1) and 2) will be a maximum of 60Hz.

Will work in all modes. It has nothing to do with frequency and sweep at all.
ps. No need to buy a 2K monitor. Take 4K better.
