Even if there is wifi with Internet access in the air, and the macbook wifi is connected to it, there may be incorrect settings in the macbook - for example, a static ip address from another network, wrong gateway, wrong subnet mask, wrong DNS. Also, the firewall of the macbook may be configured incorrectly. The router itself may also be incorrectly configured.
