Any public wifi is dangerous no matter where it is, even home wifi is dangerous if you are not on wpa2.

The owners of most popular resources use strong cryptography (TLS) to provide access to them. In particular, this applies to VKontakte ( enable HTTPS in the site and application settings ), Mail.ru, and so on, so that data will not be shared with third parties.
Answer - check if your email/social network provides HTTPS access. If yes, you are sufficiently protected from "listening" and traffic spoofing by third parties
