Why writes "Unknown monitor" when using any Linux distribution?

Hello! What I have: a monitor with a resolution of [email protected], connected directly via a VGA connector.
In, for example, Linux Mint in the monitor settings says "Unknown monitor" and 2 resolutions to choose from - 1024x768 and 800x600.
I tried to install drivers for the nVidia Geforce GTS450 video card, but it did not bring success.
Tried to use xrandr. The resolution has been applied, but even at the specified 1280x1024 it goes beyond the edges of the monitor.
I tried to set the resolution in nVidia X config to 1280x1024, but it also goes beyond the display boundaries.
Although in Windows the same resolution is set as native.

@onlooked

Go to Windows and press the auto-adjust button on the monitor itself. Then reboot into Linux, it should work -_^
