Why won't the laptop boot from a flash drive or disk?
Good afternoon!
For the sake of experiment, I decided to install Windows 8.1. Used it for a few months and decided to switch back to Ubuntu. But here's the problem - the laptop does not want to boot into any USB flash drive or DVD. A small flashing bar is displayed on a black screen and that's it. The boot image was written correctly, I checked it, Yes, and overwrote it several times.
I heard that UEFI support was added to Windows 8. Could this be the culprit? Well, actually, how to get around this, and, nevertheless, install Ubuntu?

1. What kind of laptop?
2. Does the BIOS support UEFI at all? If yes, then to boot from non-UEFI disks, enable Legacy
This is how windws 8.1 affects.
How to start from a flash drive:
Move the manipulator cursor to the lower right corner, select "Settings" -> "Turn off" and while holding down the "Shift" key, select reboot, after that a blue screen will be displayed and select "Use usb device"
