Why won't my Macbook air turn on on battery power?

I have a personal use of macbook air early 2014 one fine day, being connected to charging, it just turned off, I turned it on and it worked fine, but as soon as I turned off the charging, it turned off and turned on only when the charger was connected back. Resetting the SMC and NVRAM parameters did not give any result, if you long and hard click on the power button, it will still start from the battery but for a few minutes. And even when charging is connected, in the detailed information of the battery indicator it says that the battery is not charging and the charge is stuck at 83%.
What could be causing the problem and does anyone know how to fix it?
