upd. It's decided. It turns out that it was necessary to put on sda, and not sda1,2 .. Ie. to the hard drive itself, not the partition.

he tells you that he cannot find the media from which he could boot - perhaps you disconnected the hard drive from the virtual machine? go into the bios of the virtual machine, look at what media it sees
