Why won't Linux Mint 17.3 (Rosa MATE 64-bit) start from a USB stick (on Lenovo Z575)?
I downloaded the iso file from here:
www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=206
(Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" - MATE (64-bit))
I wrote it to a flash drive with the UltraISO program.
After that, I installed it on my desktop PC without any problems.
At home, from the same flash drive, I try to put it on a Lenovo Z575 laptop - at first I see a screen on which you can select:
- Start Linux Mint
- Start in compatibility mode
... I select
"Start Linux Mint" - I see a black screen and in the center the Linux Mint logo and beyond Nothing happens.
Installed via "Start in compatibility mode".
Now, during a normal boot from the HDD, the same garbage - a black screen and in the center of the Linux Mint logo and nothing more. I booted from the HDD in compatibility mode - it turned out, but the resolution is 1024x768 and it cannot be changed. It looks like there is no firewood...
How can I fix this? I can't always sit in compatibility mode...

The problem was solved by switching from the free video driver ( xserver-xorg-video-ati ) to the proprietary driver ( fglrx ).
Through the terminal like this:
.. or in the driver manager , you can select it too.
HDD in compatibility mode - out, but the resolution is 1024x768 and it cannot be changed. It looks like there is no firewood...

As I understand it, what you write as compatibility mode - this only applies to the compatibility of the UEFi / BIOS boot mode. And it has nothing to do with graphics.
Just in all Lenovo models, they are weird in this part ... not in a childish way ;-)
And the resolution and other graphics parameters are questions for the Radeon video driver. It's a completely different song. You need to find and install the appropriate driver.
