Why win 8.1 freezes?

Windows 8.1 laptop
The problem started when I decided to install Windows updates, which are not required. But then rolled back. It helped, but only temporarily. After 2 weeks, a message popped up that you need to check the hard drive and that's it. Windows rolled back, but in normal mode it loads, but after 5 minutes it goes into a stupor - only the cursor can be moved. Checking the disk revealed 16 bad sectors (but never checked in 3 years). Cured - did not help. Dispatcher shows 50% disk usage. Everything works in safe mode.
