Why use an alias for fontawesome icons?

Hello!
I often use icon fonts.
For example, in fontawesome.io/icons -
Ruble icon - fontawesome.io/icon/rub
Aliases: fa-ruble, fa-rouble
Why do you need (are) - aliases?

It seems to me that this is in order to simplify the life of layout designers. fa-rouble is still a little clearer than fa-rub. In some countries, the name of the ruble is written as rouble, in some ruble. So rather it's just for the convenience and clarity of the code.
