Why so many capacitors in smd boards?

Good afternoon!

Please tell me why so many motherboards (motherboards, video cards, phone boards, etc.) use capacitors in particular smd? I know that the functions of onyms can be different, but why are there so many of them in modern boards?

Basically power/signal filtering. Components consume power, pins switch, create voltage spikes. Capacitors smooth them out. Eliminate interference on lines.
