Why nail the site to the left edge of the browser?

Why glue the content of the site on the left. There are many such sites (Lebedev, for example). What is the essence of such an interface? Where did it come from?

We tend to read text from left to right.
In other languages, it may be the other way around: habrahabr.ru/company/alconost/blog/250061

Just crooked hands. You don't have to do that.

It also seems to me that if the site is not large in terms of content, then it is better to position it in the center of the screen. Or full screen if the site is rubber or adaptive.

Because in Russia people are used to reading from left to right. Still another option to approach, if placed in the center. And of course, you should not stretch the text in width, there will be a different distance between characters and the text will look crooked.
When adapting the site, the text is also mostly nailed to the left edge.
