Why modx is gaining popularity?
Hello!
I tried ModX a couple of years ago, it was pretty raw and kinky (to me). And now I see more and more news about him, more and more studios are working with him as with the main system. Who can tell a person who has been working on wordpess for many years what is interesting and useful about this engine?

Don't abandon WordPress. Try MODX. Only the latest version of Revolution.
As for the growth in popularity - there seems to be a slight increase, but of course not to the level of WP. The main feature of MODX is relatively fast integration with the design, caching without additional modules - fast loading by default. Control of each displayed character is useful when optimizing the site. Easy display of additional fields in the admin panel.
Of the minuses - there are few plugins, many of them are raw and with bugs. Most MODX developers do not know how to work with Git, and this affects the slow development of the system at the expense of the community. There is no version control system - joint work on the site is inconvenient.
In short, MODX is for tree nested sites like directories. WP - business card sites with a blog structure. I do not recommend developing online stores on any of the above systems.
You won’t know until you try it, one of the main advantages of the system is its flexibility, it’s really flexible, it doesn’t limit the developer in any way, literally nothing (i.e. for example, I can display the site menu in the title of the page, in a split second, this is of course for anyone not necessary, but the fact remains :) ).
With skillful hands - move mountains! In general, go for it, you won't regret it!
Well, the taste and color of all felt-tip pens are different ... Well, the tasks, of course.
For myself, I can say that I like MODx with the ability to pull any template, and at the same time it will be easy for a content manager to work in CMS. Of course, this can be done on the same WP or Joomla! (those that I visited myself), but they are too tied to the standard interface and either too much code / crutches comes out, or a lot of time. As a result, from this trinity, I personally chose MODx, although I do not argue - it is also not without its drawbacks.
PS
Purely my opinion, and it still applies more to sites with some kind of vyrviglazny interface that designers are terribly fond of).
PPS
My office generally uses its CMS.
Modx, unlike other CMS, is a universal system, ie. With the help of so-called snippets, you can create a website of any format. For example, a blog needs snippets - GetPage, GetResources.
It is also very easy to write templates for it.
This system is not suitable for those who like to use ready-made templates, since they are all stored in the database, not in files!
Developers call this system not a CMS, but a framework.
Try it and find out for yourself. Or you don't, and then it doesn't suit you. Judging by the fact that you have been working with WP for many years, you are very conservative. I don't know what's with MODx and what's inside, but I know well the hell that's inside WP.
Well, everything is easy and simple ...... in 1 it is easy to understand .... in 2, the integration of templates is not much easier .... in 3, writing your own scripts and their integration is also on magic ..... There are a lot of ready-made solutions in WordPress......but I certainly doubt that it is as flexible as Modx. So personally I prefer modx, but I have to work with many cms))
Modh is the best tsms I have ever seen. In the sense that almost everything can be done on it and not much bothering. There is no dibilism like in WordPress, that everything is based on a template downloaded somewhere and some kind of jquery plugins. Everything is logical, the main thing is to organize it correctly. But that’s all for now, you use it as at the level of tsms (this is more than enough for all those cases that WordPress is capable of), but when custom functionality is needed, Satanism begins. His implementation is not something that would be wrong, but very verbose and confused in places. Its own form, with its own description of tables using xml. If you want to add a field, you need to add it to this kilometer xml, then generate some kind of php generator, run it with some kind of modix processor that goes to the database and updates the schema, and then some other php map file to generate from which this orm is repelled during operation. And if you want to correct something, add it to the admin panel, then there is generally horror, all this extJs tied into a sea knot. Once I added a field filter to the table, dealt with it for half a day, I had to insert a bunch of code in 10 incomprehensible places. Extjs is their mistake, like this xpdo is terrible, it would be better if they screwed something normal from the outside world and not self-propelled
