Why might the read more tag with Cyrillic not work on a site with Markdown?

Blog on Kirby CMS. uses Markdown text formatting. With Latin, the blog preview is short at 100 characters, and Cyrillic posts are not shortened.
How to add a page break tag or fix an already working one?
