Why might someone mark the answer as a solution?

I noticed such a trick that on behalf of the author of the question, someone can choose the best answer, apparently from the administrators. Why is this being done?

The question contains errors.
First, there are no "best answers". There are just "solutions". (Well, even the "like" vote.)
Secondly, the decision is not marked "on behalf of the author." Recognition of the answer as a solution regardless of the author. The author, tag curator, or other users can vote as a solution if enough of them vote for this answer.
This is done because the Toaster is a project whose goal is to build a "knowledge base" on particular problems, and not to satisfy the needs and entertain the authors of the questions. Therefore, if the answer objectively solves the problem from the question, it can be recognized as a solution not only by the author. Moreover, authors often forget to mark solutions, do not understand that this should be done for those who will read the question in the future, or even try to annoy some respondents, because although the answer gives a solution, they may not like it for some reason. - for completely subjective reasons (for example, because it talks about an objective lack of something).
And no, this is not a "violation of the author's rights" (did you just come up with these rights yourself?), as you write in the comments. What rights? Rights not to mark the answer as a solution? No one violates it - no one forces the author to mark, others note. Or the right to prevent others from marking the answer as a solution? Well, this is generally absurd. The fact that the author cannot use the solution, or that he understated the question in such a way that his real problem does not correspond to the problem in the question, does not make the solution wrong.

The authors of the questions do not always mark the really necessary and useful answer as the solution.

The authors do not always note, or note but not true.
Tags have curators who can choose the best answer. Or through voting, any user has a button to mark the solution.

No one can choose the best answer, on the toaster all answers are equal.
It’s just that many authors don’t mark anything at all, and sometimes they can’t even understand what is the correct answer.
And other users of the toaster would benefit from knowing that a particular answer is correct.
Curators of certain tags can tag.
