Why keyboard layout switching crashes in Ubuntu 16.04?

Keyboard layout switching crashes intermittently in Ubuntu 16.04. That is, when pressing hot keys, the language change in the tray is displayed, but when typing, the input language does not change. Switching with the mouse on the icon doesn't help either. It is treated only by reboot. Where to dig? Thanks in advance.
