Why isn't the ability to choose whether a PC belongs to groups or a domain active in Windows XP Pro?
Good afternoon.
Tell me, please, what could be the reason for this problem? There is a laptop with Windows XP Professional on board. It is necessary to enter it into the domain.
Start -> RMB My Computer -> Properties -> Computer name -> Change.
The name can be changed, but the field "Is a member" is FULLY inactive. Entering the domain is not possible. How to win it.
Google didn't help. There is an opinion that it is necessary to go through the reactivation of Windows, but I have not yet found how to do this, because. there is no standard menu for this in the start panel ...

I met something similar on assemblies, and specifically on XP, when "manipulations" were made to enter the home edition into the domain. Dig in this direction. There, it seems, they replaced something so that Windows thought that it was Prof.
Only a special account of this domain can enter a computer into a domain. To get it, your computer not entered into the domain must "see" it, that is, both DNS and IP.
Point to the sky: maybe your account is not included in the "Network setup operators" group, because without the "Administrators" group, only they can change network settings.
