Why isn't plymouth working?

Arch Linux up to date.
XFCE4 + LightDM
Proprietary Nvidia drivers
Did as here www.archlinuxuser.com/2013/05/how-to-install-p.., except that the systemd service for lightdm was activated.
When booting up, the systemd startup message (starting version 232) appears on the screen, then the boot animation starts (a spinning boot wheel on a gray background), but after a while the gray background disappears and only the square with the wheel remains gray. Then the wheel scrolls quickly, which should mean that the system has booted, but that's it. There is no further download. If we switch to alt+f2 on the second virtual terminal, it does not work. The terminal does not offer to log in, the cursor just blinks. Fixing the system is only possible by manually removing plymonth from mkinitcpio. What's the matter? There are no guesses.
P.s. setting v86d as framebuffer did not solve the problem.
