Why is Ubuntu 20.04 LTS stuck on SSD (NVMe)?

The story is like this. There is a laptop that did not have an SSD, but there is a connector for it and installed Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on a 1Tb HDD (by the way, I upgraded it from 16.04 to 18.04 and then from 18.04 to 20.04).
This thing worked great, but not very fast.
The laptop also has an NVidia GeForce 1050 video card with drivers from Nvidia version 450.

I bought a 500Gb SSD, split it into two 250Gb partitions and put Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on the first partition from scratch, the old ubuntu remained on the HDD.
For a while everything works fine, but there are times when ubuntu (installed on the SSD) freezes: the keyboard does not respond, but the mouse moves, although it does not respond to clicks either. You have to turn off the computer and turn it on again.
Such freezes were noticed when working in the terminal, in Chrome, when launching some games on Steam.
What could be causing these freezes?
Maybe I can look at the logs somewhere, but I don’t know where and which ones.
Tell me, any versions can push to solve the problem.
I note that ubuntu on the HDD did not freeze like that, although I installed it three weeks ago. Maybe the new ubuntu is more buggy?

After a while, I found what the problem was. The problem is in the hardware, namely in one of the two memory slots.
If you remove the memory module from the problem slot, then there are no problems.
This is how it happens, it turns out.

Linux with a graphical interface, especially on laptops, is such a lottery... Yes, it's quite possible that combining a newer distribution with your hardware has side effects like this.
