Why is there no template.php file in the template directory?

The www/catalog/index.php file has

$APPLICATION->IncludeComponent("bitrix:catalog", "", array(

I go into the directory and don't see template.php
I edit section.php and the page changes. all OK? but why not template.php ?

This is a complex component, it does not have a template.php - for each page there is a separate file in which the internal component is connected, which lies in the bitrix folder, which can be seen in the screenshot.
