Why is the windows directory created when adding a network drive via AD?

In AD -> Users and Computers, when a network drive is connected to a user through the profile tab, a Windows directory is created in the root of the network drive. In which there are three files inifile.upd, win.ctx, win and an empty system directory.
Tell me why this directory is being created, why is it needed, and how to get rid of it if possible?
