Why is the view not updated when $scope changes?

I write the collection to the scope, display it through ng-repeat, then change it, but nothing changes on the page.
I take it you have to do it manually?
For the first time I'm doing something with angular, poke your nose at what I'm doing wrong.
$.apply does not help, swears.
