Why is the Uploadify plugin not loading images in Chrome?

All of a sudden the Uploadify plugin stopped uploading images in chrome and opera. A link to the uploaded image comes from the server, but the link gives a 404 error. On the server, in the $_FILES array, we have image data, but it is not in the folder where the transferred file should then be written. There is no problem in other browsers.

As it turned out, the rights to the folder in which the images are written were somehow reset. Interestingly, this only affected webkit browsers. Allowed all users to write to the images folder and it worked.
