Why is the main page returned with a 404 code in drupal?

Once upon a time there was a site - it didn’t touch anyone, and suddenly it turned out that the main page was given with a 404 code, while the content was displayed without problems. Other pages, as expected 200 OK. Google in Webmaster Tools told.
Here is the site itself: scrollerm2.ru
Used cms Drupal 6.
Where to dig at all? It's the first time I've come across this. Couldn't google either.

Look at the robots.txt and .htaccess settings.
Does Google see all other pages normally?

There is a suspicion of the following scenario:
Some node was attached to the main page, which was then deleted or moved (maybe the url was changed). The contents of the node are not visible on the main one.
As a "crutch" solution, you can try installing the module https://www.drupal.org/project/empty_front_page , which makes it optional to display the node on the main one.
Well, in general, of course, you need to look at the code and settings of the framework.
Unsubscribe, did the solution help?
