Why is the computer connection port light orange on my modem?

The bottom line is this:
If you change the adapter parameters in the properties - additionally - speed and duplex to 1Gbps duplex, then the port indicator starts to burn orange, but if you lower the duplex to 100Mbps, then it starts to burn green.
Can I leave it in 1 Gigabit mode or will it affect the performance of the device?

Well, everything is correct, the color shows the speed of the port.
Do you have speeds over 100 Mbps? Then set 1 Gbps, if less, set less. And it is better in general in "Auto".
