Why is everyone going to DS/ML?

Recently, there are more and more posts like: "I'm in 5/6/7 grade, I'm studying python and I want to create AI, what should I do?". In this connection, such questions appear, now it seems that the hype is already on dev ops ...
And are these real questions or trolls? And then some kind of melancholy rolls over ... (that they have already begun, I envy krch) Do
you think anything will come of this?

UPD1: Maybe it's time to open a kindergarten with an emphasis on machine learning?)

Lol, yes, every student wants something and is going to become someone, either a supirhakkir, or the creator of Skynet, but I don’t see crowds of shkilnikov-AI-shnikov.

In general, the public euphoria from the first results of ML influenced:

Oh-oh! Cool! It is not clear how it works, but let's talk about it: let the rest think that we know everything about ML and we will also collect money for this!
that formed such behavior and mentality of all people.
If you learn ML even in paid courses, nothing good will come of it.
Everything needs to be learned from scratch. Sit and figure it out, build graphs, write down steps on a piece of paper, etc. Read only what is written in Wikipedia and know a little mathematical syntax for understanding.
A simple visual example of an AI implementation is a game of tic-tac-toe (or "Tic-Tac-Toe"). Try to make your own AI enemy training game and see how difficult or easy it is (depending on the abilities of the individual).
Then, answer your own question for yourself.
To put it simply:always check the reliability of the information received from the "noise", and always evaluate the implementation tools (process logic) and the final result yourself. In the absence of at least one criterion - it's just PR and "pure" trolling.

I don’t know for the rest, but I can say for myself (I embarked on this path 5 years ago) - there really is some romance of artificial intelligence that disappears when you dive deeper into the topic.
However, the fact that it is much more interesting than riveting sites has not been canceled, after all, in DS every task is a little adventure :) Well, they pay well for it, so why not?

So, this high has long passed. And just the hype is on "DS / ML".
Do you think anything will come of it?
Hyips pass, but professionals always remain in demand.

You were given quite a lot of detailed answers, I will just summarize briefly:
1. They pay well
2. Promising
3. Fashionable
4. Interesting (in terms of personal interests, it is very interesting to create such projects, the functionality is amazing)
Here are 4 reasons why DS and ML are very popular at this time, they are just starting to gain momentum.

@Lucian

Because there is a lot of demand and a lot of high-paying jobs.
