Why is capturing the input audio stream not working in OBS?

Created a "default" source as there are no other options. Added audio to the scene. And now the audio is inaudible except for the microphone

In the bottom center there is an 'Audio Mixer' which is literally a sound mixer that allows you to mix sounds from different sources - the microphone and sounds generated by the system.
