Why is brightness not adjustable when installing Linux 17.1 on a Packard Bell TE11HC laptop?

Hello. Installed a new Linux Mint 17.1 on a Packard Bell TE11HC laptop. Brightness is not adjustable. What can be done? Thanks in advance.
