Why is BEM not used in the West and what are the alternatives?

A question. BEM is praised a lot, but if it is so good, why is it generally used only in Russia? For example, Wikipedia only has a Russian version of the BEM page, which hints at its unpopularity abroad.
And what do layout designers in the West/in the world use instead of BEM?
