Why is Avast not updating due to Defender and how to fix it?

Why is Avast not updating due to Defender and how to fix it? I will not delete the defender.
Why I decided so:
I downloaded vpsupd.exe. He does something, then says that the Defender needs to be removed and does not update the databases.
And Avast itself cannot update the databases and itself.

Why do you need 2 systems?
They interfere with each other.
This has always been the case with antiviruses.
There are special versions of antiviruses (or modes in them) - in order for them to work in pairs.
In this case, one antivirus works as an auxiliary one.
But two full-fledged antiviruses are not worth it.
They interfere with each other.

Had the same problem. I had to choose one. I did not delete, but disabled through the registry of the defender. And everything worked. Therefore, you will have to choose which is best.

You were rightly answered above, they interfere with each other. How antiviruses work is often quite specific, and it may turn out that from the point of view of one antivirus another is virus-like software. This is also facilitated by the fact that in many antiviruses there is not only a stupid definition by signature, but also an analysis of the behavior of the software, as well as heuristic algorithms that analyze nothing at all.
As for the Defender - it does not need to be removed, since it can be easily turned off. As a rule, installing a third-party antivirus will automatically disable Defender. If this does not happen, disable it manually, there is a button on it (although I'm not sure that it is in all versions of Windows).
Avast has many configuration options for setting up update modes. It did not work automatically - update manually.
And the last thing: if you choose between Avast and Defender, I would choose Defender, I would delete Avast. The reason is simple: all these watchman-class antiviruses are approximately equal in efficiency, but the Defender loads the system and the user less.
