Why is a large library not being scanned in mpd on Raspberry Pi?

Launched mpd server on raspberry pi (not overclocked, distro - volumio 1.1 beta, heir to raspyfi), a 1TB usb screw clogged with music clings to the raspberry (from mp3 64kbps to hi-res lossless in 24 \ 192). When you try to update the database, the breakdown takes about ten minutes, after which the update is completed, and not all the music appears in the database (the 62 first artists in alphabetical order, this is ~ 70GB, 505 folders and 4900 files), while navigating through them occurs without brakes and plays fine.
Is it possible to do something so that the music is played from all over the screw? Ideally, is it possible to teach mpd to play without a database just through the file system, like xbmc, for example?
