Why don't online stores use product sprites?

Why don't online stores use sprites for product images? For example, I have a list of products with names and pictures that will never change. well, that is. I don't need to add new products or change old ones. Is it possible to use a sprite in this case?

Sprites are background. Background is design, not content. Your products are content.
How will your products be displayed in the search later, or will Google have to cut them up?
If you want to speed up your work - load pictures on cdn, and don't do perversions.

What kind of nonsense? Sprites for icons and only for them. And what about photographs?
I do not see any pluses from this, only minuses:
1) Sprites must be collected constantly
2) Giant weight. I have 50,000 products, each product has 3 pictures. These are 150,000 images of 1000x1000 pixels. Further, I don’t want to consider what kind of canvas to get, but I’m sure that 90% of the users of my site will freeze their browsers tightly from such a sprite

Yes, of course it is, with a resolution multiple of a power of two. Are you a game developer?

I always do this with previews.
Especially if there are under 100 of them on the page.
