Why don't big companies store passwords in md5 format?

Because md5 is easy to brute force.
There are many databases online with md5 already decrypted.
When I needed to raise a password of 8 characters from md5, I don’t remember which one to enumerate on i5 + geforce, it took about 8 hours.
