Why doesn't the Internet start via USB modem in Ubuntu?

Hello!
Faced such a problem - I can not connect the Internet via a 3G modem on Ubuntu 15.10.
The modem is defined as a modem, the connection is successfully created and connected (the icon is on), but there is no connection. Sites do not open, when you try to ping something, it gives out "Network is unreachable".
Tellingly, the same modem worked just half an hour ago on Kubuntu 15.10.
Thanks in advance to everyone for the help.

  • Try to ping Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 - so you can understand that you either do not have an Internet connection at all, or the DNS does not work (this happens with providers). It is treated by specifying Google DNS. Although network is unreachable - this is a bit in that field.
  • Trite, but worth checking the balance.
  • Make sure you don't have any nonsense in your connection settings. It is better to enable DHCP altogether and get network settings automatically.
  • It is worth checking that the modem works under Windows.
  • Perhaps the modem is locked and does not want to work with someone else's operator without unlocking it.

@Olej

Modem is defined as a modem,

How did you know?
How?
Then the connection is not successful, and is not created ;-)
This happens if you made a mistake in the login / password set of your operator.
If not, check (compare with Kubuntu!) which module was installed by your modem driver - there are errors.
