Why doesn't Jade work?

Tell me, there is such a problem Jade does
not work, and stylus along with it
Installed everything as usual:
sudo npm install jade --global
there were no errors during installation, everything is ok,
but if you enter jade index.jade into the console to compile - nothing happens
even if just jade write
nothing...
