Why doesn't google maps api android work?

I got an API key, imported the Google Play services library into Eclipse, connected this library to my project, but when I start the application, an error occurs immediately. Even the standard Google examples that come with the library do not work (for example, in their example, maps Eclipse swears at the SaveStateDemoActivity.java file on FragmentActivity in the line public class SaveStateDemoActivity extends FragmentActivity { ....) Has anyone encountered such a problem?
